Rivolta Bespoke begins with a 3D scan of the client’s feet and leads to the creation of a personal shoe last through SYL — Sign Your Last, our proprietary digital shoemaking process developed with Politecnico di Milano.
The Bespoke process
From a 3D foot scan to a personal last: the SYL System interprets the client’s anatomy and translates it into a Rivolta form.
The scanner measures the foot. SYL interprets it.
A foot scan is only the beginning. The true value of Rivolta Bespoke lies in translating the client’s anatomy into a shoe last: an object that must fit the foot, preserve the balance of the shoe and express the Rivolta silhouette.
For generations, this interpretation belonged to the experienced eye of the shoemaker. With SYL, part of that knowledge has been codified into a proprietary process: selecting the most suitable Rivolta last and refining its volumes digitally before the physical last is produced.
From foot scan to personal last
Scan
The right and left foot are acquired in 3D to create a precise digital model.
Match
SYL compares the scan with Rivolta’s archive of lasts, sizes, fittings and volumes.
Sculpt
The closest last is digitally adjusted, increasing or reducing volume where needed.
Craft
The final STL file is sent to the last maker. Rivolta then crafts the shoe by hand in Milan.
From data to a personal last
The scan is not the result: it is the starting point. SYL transforms the client's foot data into a personal last designed for fit, proportion and construction.
A last is not a copy of the foot
A shoe last must accommodate the anatomy of the client, but it must also create the proportions, line and elegance of the finished shoe. That is why Rivolta Bespoke does not simply reproduce the scan.
It interprets the foot through the language of shoemaking: volume, support, balance, style and construction.
Two different ways to personalise a Rivolta shoe
Made to Order
Made to Order personalises an existing Rivolta model through materials, colours, soles and selected details. The shoe is built on a Rivolta standard last.
Bespoke
Bespoke creates a personal last from the client’s feet. The shoe is then crafted on that unique last, developed for the individual anatomy of the wearer.
Technology in service of craft
The purpose of SYL is not to replace the hand of the shoemaker. It gives Rivolta a more precise, repeatable and personal starting point from which a bespoke shoe can be made.
